Founded in 1967 by Milton Harris, Laurel Steel is a steel processor that values safety, quality and the environment. Part of the Harris Steel Group and a Nucor Cold Finish Division, Laurel Steel is located in Burlington Ontario Canada in a 350,000 sq. ft. facility on 22 acres of land with 150+ employees. There are 3 main product lines, Cold Finished Bar, Wire and Mesh produced on-site using the latest technologies. The CF operation feeds into a 95 ft. tower that houses a recently upgraded, fully automated storage and retrieval system.

Laurel Steel is currently seeking a District Sales Manager is to assist in the development of the Sales and Marketing efforts within Laurel Steel and the Nucor Cold Finish Group.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Proven commitment to the safety of self and others.
  • Self-motivated/self-directed - able to work with minimal supervision.
  • New business prospecting and development, including developing business by telephone on a regular basis, face to face client meetings, preparing presentations and proposals to assigned accounts.
  • Protect existing account base and increase revenue and profitability within the account.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of marketing plans and sales strategies to achieve business goals.
  • Continually assess market conditions and competitors' activities and develop an awareness of emerging markets and trends.
  • Enter pertinent call reports and customer information into the computer system.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with quality, purchasing, scheduling and plant management.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with credit, transportation and shipping departments.
  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in sales within the steel industry – preferably in the areas of cold finish bar or wire and mesh sales.
  • Completion of two-three year post-secondary education program in Business Marketing or related discipline.
  • Fluency in French an asset.
  • Hold a valid passport and willingness to travel, including overnight.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license (or equivalent) and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

 Compensation 

Salary, plus a competitive benefits package - To be determined with consideration given to skill set and education.
