Job Description

PURPOSE:

Support HDR Regional Managers, Placing Managers, Field Superintendents, and Foreman on implementation of field safety programs at the various HDR jobsites within the region (Bourbonnais,IL, Rockford, IL, and Mooresville, IN).  Responsible for conducting field safety training, performing field safety audits, investigating safety issues at job sites, ensuring compliance with HDR IIPP and other safety initiatives, contractor’s safety programs and all applicable federal and state regulations applicable to safety.

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Must adhere to Harris Davis Rebar’s safety programs and standards.
  • Demonstrates conduct consistent with Harris Davis Rebar vision and values.
  • Support Field Superintendents and Foreman with all aspects of field safety programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with company safety program, contractor’s safety programs, and with all applicable federal and state regulations applicable to safety and reporting any significant safety related issues to Placing Manager and Safety Director.
  • Take corrective action directly with Foreman, Superintendents, Teammates or General Contractors if a safety concern is observed or reported.
  • Frequently visit project sites to audit site safety plans, prepare safety reports per visit to ensure compliance with safety requirements and to formulate safe work plans.
  • Assist Superintendent and Foreman in issuing warnings and instructing on safe work practices if work procedures or company policies are not followed.
  • Assist Superintendents and Foreman in conducting accident, incident and injury reviews and in conducting root cause investigations, including taking photographs and witness statements.
  • Assist Superintendents and Foreman in carrying out the goals of the Safety Program by formulating plans, procedures and objectives, and by evaluating effectiveness of the program.
  • Assist in injury and claims management as needed to include, but limited to, developing injury/illness treatment procedures and comply with OSHA record-keeping requirements.
  • Assist area supervision with new jobsite site specific plans.
  • Provide Safety Director with weekly area updates.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician Certification (CHST)
  • At minimum, 5 years of construction safety & health experience
  • Holds valid OSHA 30 training certificate

PREFERENCES

  • OSHA 500 preferred or ability to obtain OSHA 500 in first 6 months of employment
  • Certified First Aid/CPR
  • Bilingual- Spanish
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint an asset

  • Demonstrated organizational, customer service, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to relate to all levels of management.
  • Must be self-motivated with a drive for continuous improvement and “can do” attitude.

 SPECIAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to work overtime when required
  • Frequent and extensive travel 50-85% of the time to job sites
  • Occasional work outside normal working hours to train teammates working on other shifts

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Typical office and construction site activities
  • Walking, sitting, standing, bending, climbing ladders and scaffold towers
  • Using hands to operate objects, tools computers and electronic equipment
  • Lifting/handling (typically not more than 25 pound)
  • Vision abilities including close vision and adjusting focus
